Shout Out for Own Justice
13 years old Fulmaya B.K. belong to Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-14 Rangsi, Rukum East has responsibility of caring and raring of two young sisters who are 3 and 5 years of age. Her mother was passed away and her father is in overseas since 3 years to earn for livelihood. Situation of family is poor. Being the elder daughter of home, responsibilities of raising of two sisters and management of home tasks came upon her. It’s very hard for her to take care of all the things. She had no time for school. So, she dropped out the study from grade 7. “who else will manage the things at home, if I will be out from house and continue my study” states Fulmaya very sadly.
On November 30,2020, a man (so-called relative) from same village aged 27, who already had wife and daughter, came to Fulmaya’s house and took her far from the village pretending a work there. On the way that man forced her to go with him for marriage purpose. Fulmaya was afraid and she shouted for help. Somehow, she managed to ru
n away from there and hide herself in village. She told the villagers about that event in next day. She was so much afraid about an event and hide herself in house for a few days. From the day on, she was mentally disturbed thinking about a man, if he come again and forced her to marriage. Getting information about the event and the condition of Fulmaya, Ms. Mohankumari Budha (A social mobilizer of ‘Achieving Better Life For Every Child And Adolescents’ project) of same village visited her. With some courage, Ms. Mohankumari counsel Fulmaya about government policies regarding child marriage, and child right. She advised and encouraged Fulmaya to report a case against that attempt in ward office and police station for what she faced and for the security as well. After being motivated, Fulmaya decided to fight and speak out for justice immediately and registered her application in ward office. That case was the first ever case registered in that area against child marriage. After that, ward office and police called that man and asked to pay Rs. Ten Thousand Rupees to Fulmaya as compensation and not to bother her again in the future.
Although, the money provided as compensation was not big enough, but the important was girl got her courage back to run her life normally as before. After all the things cleared out, Fulmaya thanked Mohankumari with smile “I am happy that someone is here working in such issue and helped me out to speak and fight for my own justice”. “I will continue my study if situation goes well in future” she shared with hope on her face.”
